Search engine market share worldwide
StatCounter counts search engine referrals: clicks from a search results page to a website that runs its tracking code. It does not count searches.
Google is still far ahead. Its share was 89.94% in September 2026 and stayed between 89.85% and 91.32% in every month of the past year.
Bing is the engine that moved. It went from 4.1% to 5.29% in a year, the biggest gain of any search engine in StatCounter's worldwide data. Yandex, Yahoo and DuckDuckGo all lost a little ground.

Desktop vs mobile search engine market share
Google's lead is a mobile story. On phones it had 95.68% of referrals in September 2026. On desktop it had 78.09%, and Bing took 14.65%.
Bing ships as the default search engine in Windows and Microsoft Edge, which helps explain why almost all of its share comes from desktop.

Search engine market share by country
Google leads in most countries, but not all. Single-month shares can swing, so the table also shows a 12-month average for the leader.
Google leads in 10 of the 12 countries we track. Yandex leads in Russia and Baidu leads in China. South Korea is the closest race, with Naver a few points behind Google.
Japan is the big mover. Bing had under 9% of Japanese search referrals in September 2025. It has had at least 24.27% every month since January 2026. StatCounter has not published a reason. We will keep tracking it monthly.
Read China with care. StatCounter only sees websites that run its tracking code, and most of China's largest sites do not. Baidu's monthly share swings by more than 15 points within a single year, so use the 12-month average.

How StatCounter measures search engine market share
StatCounter counts referrals, not searches. A referral is a visit to a website that came from a search results page. StatCounter only sees websites that run its free tracking code.
Its network covers more than 1 million websites and more than 3 billion page views a month, according to StatCounter's FAQ. That makes it one of the largest public samples, but it is still a sample. Sites that do not use StatCounter, and searches that end without a click, are not counted.
So treat these numbers as each engine's share of search traffic sent to websites. Google does not publish its own share figures.
