Cloud market share by provider
Synergy Research Group publishes cloud market shares every quarter. It covers IaaS, PaaS and hosted private cloud. In the second quarter of 2026 the three largest providers were Amazon, Microsoft and Google.
Amazon is still the clear leader, with 28% of the market. Microsoft is second on 20% and Google third on 15%. Together the three held 63% of the total market. Synergy puts their share of public cloud alone higher, at 67%.
The rest of the market is not small. About 37% of revenue, or roughly $53.1 billion in the quarter, went to other providers. That group includes Oracle, Alibaba and a fast-growing set of GPU-focused neoclouds such as CoreWeave. Neoclouds alone took 5% of the market in the first quarter of 2026.
Synergy's shares and the companies' own numbers do not match exactly. A 28% share of $143.4 billion is about $40.2 billion, while AWS reported $42.2 billion. Shares are rounded to whole points, and AWS sales include some revenue Synergy may count differently. Read the shares as a ranking with a margin of a point or two.

Amazon, Microsoft and Google accounted for 67% of the public cloud market in the second quarter of 2026, according to Synergy Research Group.
-
Cloud providers outside the big three took about $53.1 billion of cloud infrastructure revenue in the second quarter of 2026, calculated by StatisticsGlobal from Synergy Research Group data.
How we calculated it: 100% - 63% (Amazon 28% + Microsoft 20% + Google 15%) = 37%. 37% x $143.4 billion = $53.1 billion. Rounded shares make this approximate.
-
Synergy Research Group's 28% share for Amazon implies about $40.2 billion of cloud revenue in the second quarter of 2026, against AWS's reported $42.2 billion, calculated by StatisticsGlobal.
How we calculated it: 28% x $143.4 billion (Synergy Q2 2026) = $40.2 billion. Amazon reported AWS segment net sales of $42.2 billion for the same quarter. The $2.0 billion gap reflects rounding of the share and differences in what each measure counts.
| Provider | Market share | Implied revenue | Reported cloud revenue |
|---|---|---|---|
| Amazon (AWS) | 28% | $40.2 billion | $42.2 billion (AWS net sales) |
| Microsoft (Azure) | 20% | $28.7 billion | Not disclosed (Azure growth +43%) |

Cloud market share by quarter
Synergy releases shares about a month after each quarter ends. The series below uses the releases we fetched, from the fourth quarter of 2024 to the second quarter of 2026.
Amazon's share has eased from 30% to 28% over the last six releases. Synergy says it averaged a little over 32% in 2021. AWS revenue is still growing fast, so this is a slow loss of share in a market that is growing even faster, not a fall in sales.
Google is the steadiest gainer. Its share rose from 12% in the fourth quarter of 2024 to 15% in the second quarter of 2026. Microsoft has moved between 20% and 21% over the same period.
The top three have still gained ground as a group. They held 61% of spending in the third quarter of 2023, 62% a year later and 63% in the third quarter of 2025. Synergy says the smaller providers have been losing share, while Oracle and the neoclouds gain.

AWS vs Azure vs Google Cloud growth
The three providers report cloud results in different ways. Amazon and Alphabet give dollar figures. Microsoft gives only a growth rate for Azure.
Google Cloud grew fastest. Its revenue rose 81.8% to $24.8 billion. Azure grew 43% and AWS 37%. AWS is still much bigger, but the gap is closing. Google Cloud was 58.6% the size of AWS in the second quarter of 2026, up from 44.1% a year earlier.
In dollars the race is closer than the growth rates suggest. AWS added $11.4 billion of quarterly revenue over the year, and Google Cloud added $11.1 billion. AWS grows from a much larger base, so a lower rate still adds almost as many dollars.
Both AWS and Google Cloud became more profitable. The AWS operating margin rose from 32.9% to 39.4%. The Google Cloud margin rose from 20.7% to 35.6%. Microsoft does not report an Azure margin or Azure revenue in dollars. It says Azure passed $100 billion in revenue for the first time in the fiscal year to June 2026.
Contracted demand points to more growth. Microsoft's commercial remaining performance obligation rose 84% to $678 billion. That figure covers all commercial business, not only Azure.

Oracle, Alibaba and other cloud providers
Outside the big three, Oracle and Alibaba are the largest providers that report cloud results. Gartner's annual IaaS ranking gives a second view of concentration.
Oracle is growing fastest among the large providers. Its cloud infrastructure revenue more than doubled, up 121% to $7.4 billion in the quarter to August 2026. Its remaining performance obligations reached $664 billion, which suggests large contracts still to be delivered.
Alibaba reports cloud inside a wider segment. Its AI Cloud and Compute Services segment grew 45% to RMB48.4 billion, about US$7.1 billion, in the quarter to June 2026. Alibaba merged its cloud unit with T-Head to form that segment, so the figure is not directly comparable with earlier cloud results.
Gartner counts IaaS only, and its shares look different. It gave Amazon 37.7% of IaaS in 2024, against Synergy's roughly 30% for the broader market. Gartner also shows the top five holding 82.1% of IaaS. The two firms measure different things, so both can be right.

How the sources measure cloud market share
Synergy Research Group estimates quarterly cloud infrastructure service revenue, covering IaaS, PaaS and hosted private cloud. It builds the totals from provider earnings plus its own estimates for companies that do not report cloud separately. It rounds shares to whole points and may revise earlier quarters. Its stated growth rates are sometimes adjusted for currency, so they can differ from a simple calculation on its published totals.
Gartner measures IaaS public cloud only, once a year. Its latest public ranking covers 2024. Because it excludes PaaS, its totals are smaller and Amazon's share is higher.
Company figures are not market shares. AWS segment sales include all AWS services. Google Cloud includes Google Workspace, a software product. Microsoft discloses only the growth rate of Azure and other cloud services, plus a wider Microsoft Cloud total that includes software-as-a-service products. Oracle's fiscal quarter ends in August, two months after the others.
We will update this page when third-quarter 2026 results and Synergy's next estimate are out. For other market share data, see our search engine market share page.
