Google Search Statistics 2026: Searches per Day, Zero-Click, Revenue and AI
Google handles more than 5 trillion searches a year, according to Google. That is about 13.7 billion searches a day, or 158,000 a second, calculated by StatisticsGlobal. Most searches no longer send a click: 68.01% of US Google searches ended without one from January to April 2026, according to SparkToro. Search still earns Alphabet the most money. Google Search & other revenue was $63.27 billion in the second quarter of 2026, up 16.8% on a year earlier.

How many Google searches per day
Google rarely publishes a search count. The most recent official figure is a single line in a March 2025 company blog post.
Google said in March 2025 that it sees "more than 5 trillion searches" a year. Spread evenly, that is about 13.7 billion searches a day. Because Google says "more than", treat the daily figure as a floor.
SparkToro made its own estimate from market share, internet user counts and its clickstream panel. It came out at 16.4 billion a day, about 20% above the rate implied by Google's figure. SparkToro's number rests on an assumption that mobile and desktop volumes are similar, so we lead with Google's own count.
Google has also said that people shop more than 1 billion times a day across its services. Since then it has said that queries are at an all-time high, without giving new totals.
-
Google handled more than 5 trillion searches a year as of March 2025, according to Google.
-
Google handled about 13.7 billion searches a day in 2025, calculated by StatisticsGlobal from Google data.
How we calculated it: 5 trillion searches a year / 365 days = 13.7 billion a day. Google says "more than 5 trillion", so this is a floor.
-
Google handled about 158,000 searches a second in 2025, calculated by StatisticsGlobal from Google data.
How we calculated it: 5 trillion searches a year / 31,536,000 seconds in a year = 158,549, rounded down to 158,000. A floor, as Google says "more than 5 trillion".
-
People shopped more than 1 billion times a day across Google in 2025, according to Google.
-
SparkToro estimated Google served at least 16.4 billion searches a day worldwide in 2024, about 20% above the daily rate implied by Google, calculated by StatisticsGlobal.
How we calculated it: SparkToro estimate of 16.4 billion a day / 13.7 billion a day (Google: 5 trillion a year / 365) = 1.20. SparkToro built its figure from global market share, internet users and an assumption that mobile and desktop volumes are similar.

Google searches per person
The best public data on how often one person searches comes from clickstream panels. They track web browsers, not the Google app.
The average active US desktop user made 126 unique Google searches a month in 2024. That is about 4 a day. The median user made 53, so a smaller group of heavy searchers lifts the average.
These numbers cover desktop browsers only. Phones and the Google app are missing, so total searches per person are higher than this.
Google Images had about one-eighth the volume of Google.com among US desktop users in 2024.
-
Active US desktop web users made an average of 126 unique Google searches a month in 2024, according to SparkToro.
-
The median US desktop web user made 53 Google searches a month in 2024, according to SparkToro.
-
The average active US desktop web user made about 4.1 Google searches a day in 2024, calculated by StatisticsGlobal from SparkToro data.
How we calculated it: 126 searches a month x 12 / 365 days = 4.14 a day.
-
The average US desktop Google user searched 2.4 times as often as the median user in 2024, calculated by StatisticsGlobal from SparkToro data.
How we calculated it: Mean 126 searches a month / median 53 = 2.38. A small group of heavy searchers pulls the average up.
-
Google Images had about one-eighth the search volume of Google.com among US desktop users in 2024, according to SparkToro.

Zero-click search statistics
A zero-click search ends without a click to any website, ad or other Google property. The searcher either leaves or searches again.
Just over two in three US Google searches now end without a click. SparkToro measured 68.01% for January to April 2026. It puts the 2024 rate at 60.45%. Over the same period, the share of searches followed by another search rose 7.2 points.
The two SparkToro studies do not fully agree. The original 2024 study reported 58.5% zero-click for the US, using a Datos panel. The 2026 study restates 2024 as 60.45% and uses Similarweb for 2026. So the trend is clear, but the exact size of the change depends on the panel.
Clicks to the open web tell the same story. US searches sent 360 clicks per 1,000 to non-Google sites in 2024 and 231 in early 2026, a fall of about 36%. Germany sends the most traffic out of the six countries, 24% more per search than the US.

Google search revenue
Alphabet reports "Google Search & other" as one revenue line in its quarterly results. It is the closest public measure of what Google earns from search.
Fewer clicks have not hurt Google's search income so far. Search & other revenue grew between 14.5% and 19.1% a year in each of the last four reported quarters. It reached $243.3 billion in the 12 months to June 2026.
Search still makes up more than half of Alphabet's revenue, but its share is slipping. It was 52.8% in the second quarter of 2026, down from 56.2% a year earlier. Google Cloud grew much faster, by 82% in the same quarter, according to Alphabet.
Inside advertising, Search is dominant. It brought in 77.5% of Google advertising revenue in the second quarter of 2026. YouTube ads and the Google Network made up the rest.

Google search market share
Google had 89.94% of worldwide search engine referrals in September 2026, according to StatCounter. Its share was 17 times Bing's.

AI Overviews and AI Mode impact on Google clicks
Google now answers many queries with an AI summary at the top of the page. Google says this grows searches. Independent studies find it cuts clicks.
Google reports fast growth. AI Overviews had more than 2 billion monthly users by July 2025. AI Mode had more than 75 million daily users in October 2025 and passed 1 billion monthly users by July 2026. Google says both features add searches overall.
Independent data shows the cost to websites. In Pew's March 2025 study, users clicked a result in 8% of visits with an AI summary and 15% without. That makes a click 47% less likely when a summary appears. Only 1% of visits included a click on a link inside the summary.
AI summaries show up most on long and question-style searches. 53% of searches of 10 words or more produced one, against 8% of one- or two-word searches.
Most people still search the classic way. SparkToro found only 0.34% of US Google searches moved on to AI Mode from January to April 2026. For how AI assistants compare, see our AI chatbot market share.

| Ended the browsing session | 26% | 16% |

How these Google search statistics are measured
Google publishes very little about search volume. The 5 trillion figure is a single sentence in a 2025 blog post. AI Overviews and AI Mode user counts come from earnings calls, and Google does not explain how it counts a user.
Alphabet's revenue figures come from quarterly earnings releases filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission. Alphabet does not split Search & other into smaller parts.
SparkToro's zero-click and searches-per-person figures come from clickstream panels, which record what a sample of people do in their web browsers. They miss the Google app. SparkToro switched from Datos to Similarweb between its 2024 and 2026 studies, so changes over time are approximate. SparkToro sells audience research software.
Pew Research Center tracked the browsing of 900 US adults in its KnowledgePanel Digital in March 2025. It is a small but carefully recruited sample, and it covers the US only.
StatCounter measures referrals to the websites that run its tracking code. It is a share of clicks to websites, not a share of searches.
